Florence is the city at the heart of Renaissance art, with more World Heritage sites than any other city.
One of the further great joys of Florence is that all the most stunning sites are within easy walking distance of each other. The visitor's only problem is which ones to visit first.
The iPodCityWalk around Florence is designed to take about 1 1/2 to 2 hours, without time planned to queue for any of the sites. The terrain is flat and, while not a circular tour, it only takes about 10 minutes to walk from the end of the tour back to the start point.
Starting at the Ponte Vecchio, the walk route takes you to see all the most famous sites in Florence, but also provides the opportunity to see some of the lesser known, but equally fascinating places, steeped in history.
So alongside Michaelangelo's David and the Duomo with Brunelleschi's dome, you will also visit the monastic cell, where Savonarolo orchestrated the Bonfire of the Vanities, and the open loggia, where abandoned children were put on display to be recalimed by their parents.
On a more contemporary note, the tour also give you the opportunity to walk around the central market to take advantage of the roast pork rolls and fantastic parmesan cheese.
