Addictive Sounds from Tokyo
Those of you who have never been to Japan have most likely still heard some of the music they listen to thanks to television, 4G mobile broadband internet, etc. You might have noticed a distinct difference that is sometimes inexplicable but always addictive. You’re never really sure why you keep coming back but every time you do, your ears are being bombarded by some electronic torrent of energy.
To understand this phenomenon we must first understand the city of Tokyo. Home to more than 13 million people, Tokyo is a city of sounds and energy as people come and go in rapid succession. Streets are lined with electronics while digital billboards flash out and snatch up your attention; it’s a consumer’s paradise.
The reason the music of Japan, the pop, the hip-hop and the rock reach into us and draw us in is because it is all evocative of that communal energy. All those people co-existing in such a small space, it requires politeness, nobility and understanding and these are all things conveyed in their music. You feel welcome when you hear it and you beg for more.
